Introduction

The Search Committee for the appointment of Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the Governing Council of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, invites applications from qualified and competent persons for the position of Vice Chancellor of the University.

The position will become vacant on 1st August, 2026.


The University

The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, was established in 2004 by an Act of Parliament, University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa Act, 2004 (Act 677).

The vision of the University is to become a world-renowned institution recognized for excellence in research, innovation, and the production of world-class professionals specializing in sustainable mining, petroleum, technology, and related disciplines.

The Position

As enshrined in the University of Mines and Technology Statutes (2012), Statute 7, the Vice Chancellor is the Executive Head of the University. The Vice Chancellor is responsible, under the Council of the University, for both the academic and administrative functions of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor also serves as the Chief Disciplinary Officer of the University.


The Person

The successful applicant must:

  • Be a Full Professor of international acclaim and a distinguished scholar in a relevant discipline.

  • Demonstrate the ability to lead the University by identifying opportunities and developing and implementing a strategic vision that ensures the execution of the University’s Strategic Plan.

  • Exhibit a high sense of leadership and strong organizational skills.

  • Be an ethical leader with unblemished character.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be a team player.

  • Be visionary and business-oriented, with the ability to establish strong relationships between industry and the University for mutual benefit.

  • Have the capacity to raise and manage funds and resources for research and other development activities of the University.

  • Be able to serve a full four-year term of office before attaining the compulsory retiring age of sixty (60) years.


Terms of Appointment

The appointment is full-time and shall be for four (4) years in the first instance. It may be subject to renewal for another term of four (4) years or part thereof.

The position attracts highly competitive remuneration and conditions of service.
