APPOINTMENT OF VICE CHANCELLOR
The Search Committee for the appointment of Vice Chancellor on behalf of the Governing Council of the University of
Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, invites applications from qualified and competent persons for the position of
Vice Chancellor of the University, which becomes vacant on 1st August, 2026.
The University
The University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, was
established in 2004, by an Act of Parliament, University
of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa Act, 2004 Act 677. The
vision of the University is to become a world-renowned
University recognised for excellence in research, innovation
and producing world-class professionals specialising in
sustainable mining, petroleum, technology and related
disciplines.
The Core Values of the University are Knowledge, Truth,
Excellence, Accountability, Equity, Inclusivity and Diversity.
The Position
As enshrined in the University of Mines and Technology
Statutes (2012), Statute 7, the Vice Chancellor is the Executive
Head of the University and is responsible, under the Council
of the University, for both the academic and administrative
functions. The Vice Chancellor is also the Chief Disciplinary
Officer of the University.
The Person
» Must be a Full Professor of international acclaim and a
distinguished scholar in a relevant discipline;
» Must demonstrate the ability to lead the University by
identifying opportunities, developing and implementing
a strategic vision that ensures the implementation of the
University’s Strategic Plan;
» Must exhibit a high sense of leadership and organisational
skills;
» Must be an ethical leader with unblemished character;
» Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication
skills and must be a team player;
» Must be a visionary, business-oriented and be able to
establish rapport between industry and the University
for common purpose;
» Must have the capacity to raise and manage funds and
resources for research and other development activities
of the University; and
» Must be able to serve a full four-year term of office before
attaining the compulsory retiring age of sixty (60) years.
Terms of Appointment
The Appointment, which is full-time, shall be for four (4)
years in the first instance, and may be subject to renewal for
another term of four (4) years or part thereof.
The position attracts highly competitive remuneration and
conditions of service.

» Curriculum Vitae, including Names and Addresses of
Three (3) Referees;
» Statement of Candidate’s Vision for the University; the
statement must not be more than 1,200 words; and
» Use Times New Roman, font size 12 with 1.5 line spacing
for all documents in PDF.

the Chairman, Search Committee for the appointment of
Vice Chancellor, via the email: vcsearchcommittee2026@
gmail.com, no later than 17:00 hours GMT on Friday, 27th
February, 2026.
All applicants shall ensure that three (3) referees submit
reports on them directly to the Chairman, Search Committee
for the appointment of Vice Chancellor, through the email,
vcsearchcommittee2026@gmail.com, on or before Friday,
6th March, 2026.
